The Red Hook Rotary is again supporting Red Hook Little League by sponsoring a team. Charles Nugent, Little League President, was guest of honor at a recent Rotary breakfast where he spoke of the history of Little League baseball in Red Hook, and the plans for the coming season.

Red Hook Rotary welcomed as guest the Right Reverend Dr. V. Devasahayam, Bishop in Madras of the Diocese of Madras of the Church of South India. Bishop Devasahayam spoke of the efforts of Rotary International to assure clean and safe drinking water in his area of India. He then presented Red Hook Rotary President Fred Cartier with a gift shawl and clock from India.

Today’s program was an excellent presentation by six Red Hook High School students who recently attended the National High School Model United Nations conference in NY City. At the conference, students formed committees modeled on those of the actual UN. These included the Economic and Financial Committee, Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, UNESCO, and the Summit on Middle East Peace. They addressed pressing issues such as using education as a tool for the reintegration of child soldiers, economic stimulation in the Middle East, and the treatment of cultural minorities. Red Hook representatives also had the opportunity to discuss Lebanese issues with the Lebanese Representative to the UN.

Hello from Scotland where I had the pleasure of attending a make-up meeting with the Rotary of Edinburgh. They have 100+ member of which 67 showed up for this week's meeting. We exchanged banners and had an excellent lunch (13.50 pounds or $27.00, so our breakfasts seem very reasonable.)

Now on to London.

Sincerely - Jonah
